SUMMARY:Military Sexual Trauma: Treatment Options Based on Context
DESCRIPTION:Military Sexual Trauma: Treatment Options Based on Context \nTime: 1:00pm-4:00pm \nLocation: Virtual \nInstructor: Lori R. Daniels\, Ph.D.\, LCSW \nCE credits: \nCourse Description: \nAppropriate treatment of sexual assault and/or harassment from a client’s active-duty military experience can be challenging for mental health providers. A one-size-fits-all intervention may not be the most appropriate intervention\, given the complexity of issues or the timing within a client’s counseling journey. The context of a survivor’s experience and creating a collaborative counseling relationship are important variables to consider as therapists facilitate each survivor’s recovery process. This presentation will discuss the option of integrative psychotherapy techniques (including evidence to support multiple interventions) which allow for a client’s context to be taken into account and the building of rapport as a priority. If time\, a case will also be presented illustrating the application of integrative methods. \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the end of this training participants will be able to: \nState the risk factors with military sexual trauma vs. civilian sexual trauma incidences.\nDiscuss the use of integrative psychotherapy methods for use among assault survivors with complex issues.\nDescribe a model that allows assessment of a client’s traumatic event context\, as well as healing context.\nDescribe their own context as clinicians that may maximize their ability to work with sex assault survivors. \nReferences: \nLopes\, Jillian\, et al. “Adding Insult to Injury: Exploring the Relation between Moral Injury and Military Sexual Trauma.” Journal of Military\, Veteran and Family Health\, vol. 9\, no. 4\, 1 Sept. 2023\, pp. 19–28\, https://doi.org/10.3138/jmvfh-2022-0045. \nGalovski\, Tara E.\, et al. “The Relative Impact of Different Types of Military Sexual Trauma on Long-Term PTSD\, Depression\, and Suicidality.” Journal of Interpersonal Violence\, vol. 38\, no. 15-16\, 27 Apr. 2023\, p. 088626052311688\, https://doi.org/10.1177/08862605231168823. \nHerriott\, Charlotte\, et al. “Defining Military Sexual Trauma: Establishing Parameters and Perspectives.” European Journal of Psychotraumatology\, vol. 15\, no. 1\, 16 Aug. 2024\, https://doi.org/10.1080/20008066.2024.2390759. \nRegistration: Open\nEvent Date\nJUN19FRIDAY\nSave to calendar\nRegistration Closes\nJune 17\, 2026 @ 11:55 pm \nLocation \nFeatured SpeakersView all featured speakers ▶\nINSTRUCTOR\nPhoto of Lori Daniels\, Ph.D LCSW\nLori Daniels\, Ph.D LCSW\nSelection Options\nVirtual Event \n	Friday Jun 19\, 2026 @ 01:00:PM — 04:00:PM PDT\nVirtual link will be emailed to participants the day before the event.

SUMMARY:WDVA: Washington State's New Confidentiality Standards
DESCRIPTION:Washington State’s New Confidentiality Standards\nWashington State Department of Veterans Affairs WORKSHOP\nFri\, July 31\, 2026\nEvent Banner\nWashington State’s New Confidentiality Standards for LMHCs\, LMFTs\, and Social Workers \nTime: 9:00am-12:00pm \nLocation: Virtual \nInstructor: Dr. Eric L Ström\, Ph.D.\, JD\, LMHC \nCE credits: 3 \nCourse Description: \nAs of July 27th 2025\, the legal framework for confidentiality in behavioral health practice underwent a significant shift in Washington State. Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs)\, Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs)\, and Social Workers are now subject to the standards of RCW 70.02—Washington’s Uniform Health Care Information Act—through its incorporation into RCW 18.225.105. \nThis 3-hour ethics workshop is designed to help clinicians understand and apply this critical change to Washington State law. Participants will examine how the newly aligned laws alter confidentiality obligations\, reshape definitions of protected information\, and introduce updated rules around disclosures\, client rights\, and documentation practices. \nThrough step-by-step analysis\, practical examples\, and discussion\, this training will equip attendees to confidently navigate the new legal landscape while upholding core ethical principles. This course is intended to meet Washington’s ethics CEU requirement. \n Objectives: \nAt the end of this training\, participants will be able to: \nIdentify the sources of legal standards relating to confidentiality;\nUnderstand the relationship between Washington State statutes and federal regulations with respect to client confidentiality;\nDescribe when disclosure of client information is required;\nDescribe when disclosure of client information is allowed\nCreate strategies to apply current confidentiality laws to protect the best interest of veteran clients. \nReferences: \nConfidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records. SUMMARY:AllRise: Mental Health\, Trauma\, and Justice Involvement
DESCRIPTION:Session 4: Mental Health\, Trauma\, and Justice Involvement\nDate & Time\nAug 11\, 2026 09:00 AM in\nPacific Time (US and Canada)\nDescription\nJustice-involved individuals often present with complex clinical profiles that extend far beyond substance use disorders. Serious mental illness\, trauma exposure\, cognitive impairment\, and chronic stress frequently shape behavior in ways that are misunderstood within traditional court frameworks. When these factors go unrecognized\, participants are often labeled as “noncompliant\,” sanctioned for symptoms\, and placed in treatment models that do not meet their clinical needs.\nThis session helps participants deepen their clinical conceptualization of justice-involved behavior. Attendees will examine how to differentiate substance use–driven behaviors from those rooted in mental health conditions\, trauma responses\, and neurobehavioral challenges. The session explores why standard treatment court structures frequently struggle to serve individuals with complex co-occurring disorders and highlights the risks of over-sanctioning clinically vulnerable participants.\nParticipants will gain practical strategies for adapting treatment approaches\, improving communication with court teams\, and advocating for responses that are grounded in clinical reality\, ethical practice\, and evidence-based care rather than misinterpretation of behavior. \nLearning Objectives\n1.	Differentiate between behaviors primarily driven by substance use and those driven by mental health conditions\, trauma\, or cognitive impairment.\n2.	Explain why individuals with complex co-occurring disorders often struggle in traditional treatment court models.\n3.	Describe how trauma\, chronic stress\, and emotional dysregulation impact behavior\, decision-making\, and perceived “compliance.” \n“Therapeutic Court Association of Washington is sharing this event for informational purposes only and is not affiliated with\, endorsing\, or sponsoring the event.”
