About the Association
We are excited to share an important update! As of January 1, 2026, the Washington State Association of Drug Court Professionals (WSADCP) is now doing business as the Therapeutic Court Association of Washington (TCA of WA).
Why the change?
Washington was a national leader in establishing drug courts, beginning in 1994 in King County. WSADCP was formed in 1997 to support this innovative approach. Over time, other successful problem-solving court models (such as Mental Health Courts, Family Treatment Courts, and Community Courts) emerged across the state. Collectively, these are known as therapeutic courts.
Our new name reflects our mission: to provide training, and resources for all therapeutic courts in Washington State.
Therapeutic courts link justice systems with treatment providers and community services to support individuals with substance use or mental health disorders, helping them achieve long-term recovery and change. These courts improve public health and safety through evidence-based, cost-effective practices that transform lives and strengthen communities.
Our Board of Directors continues to serve three associations committed to education and legislative advocacy. Therapeutic courts link justice systems with treatment providers and community services to support individuals with substance use or mental health disorders—helping them achieve long-term recovery and change. These courts improve public health and safety through evidence-based, cost-effective practices that transform lives and strengthen communities.
Together, we’re building healthier, safer communities—one life at a time.
